Virginia Treaties Between Native Nations and the English Crown During the 1600s

The following treaties and peace agreements document the diplomatic relationships between Virginia's Indigenous Nations and the English colonial government during the seventeenth century.

These agreements shaped the history of Native communities throughout Virginia, including the Powhatan Confederacy and related nations. The treaties established boundaries, trade relationships, tribute obligations, and political alliances while reflecting the ongoing efforts of Native leaders to protect their people, lands, and sovereignty during a period of tremendous change.

For the Kikotan Nation, these historical agreements provide important insight into the relationships between Indigenous Nations and colonial authorities and serve as a reminder that Native peoples remained active political leaders, negotiators, and sovereign nations throughout Virginia's colonial history.
